Formats

Sitcom

This is the multi-camera / audience format for sitcoms. It equals about half-a-minute a page. Rather than tab to the middle of the page, set your left margin to 10.5cm. Set your other margins to: right 1.5cm, top 3cm, bottom 3cm. Each scene starts on a new page.

Comedy-drama

Comedy-drama is single camera and so generally uses the film format. However for TV you are expected to number the scenes. Some TV writers underline and embolden the scene headers and use 'CUT TO' but that's up to you.

Broken comedy

Series drama

This example is for continuing drama series like Casualty. Set the left margin of about 7cm after you have finished. That way it equals about a page a minute. Spec script samples to get writing gigs need to be 60 minutes - which is about 14,500 words.
